Well, they’ve pulled 10 dolphins out of the river since Christmas. There were 16 to begin with. That leaves 6. Four were spotted leaving the river just before it froze. What happened to the other two? Did they make it out…or will they resurface dead? Only time will tell…

Chrissi,
NOAA doesn’t want to “interfere” with nature. It is not an issue about money.
In fact, an agency in Florda offered to cover the full cost of a joint rescue, but the NOAA declined to allow it.
If you care, please keep after Congressman Pallone and Senator Keane to enact legislation to protect these sweet unfortunate creatures. They are advocates and have been very supportive.
If the dolphins were someone’s dogs or cats, and they were left out in the cold, the owners would be charged with abuse. Why is the NOAA allowed to get away with this?

Thank you for posting these pictures. I find them comforting to see the animals flocking, however I know the grim truth and don’t think for one minute I don’t and my children don’t think of them on a daily basis.
They ask if the dolphin are cold, are they hungry and I have to tell them I don’t know. I can’t help but wonder if our monies were not being mismanaged elsewhere, might the NOAA have the funds to transfer them elsewhere.
I attended Stockton State College and know that the stranding center does everything possible to rescue and observe. I feel sometimes we humans inhibit and impair animal behavior and therefore should rectify the situation.

Please leave nature alone. Please do not worry about the ice forming on the river. If the river is cold enough to freeze, it will force both the bait and the smart dolphins to leave. Trust nature.

I think we should try and move the dolphins. They’ve waited long enough, obviously they are not leaving for whatever reason and since the rivers do freeze, I think they should move. Wiating until they are in distress is not only dangerous to them, because they are probably stressed out, but also dangerous for any humans trying to rescue them.

Sounds to me like the NOAA evaded all of the important questions.
That causes me alot of concern.
And they don’t know where three of them are?
Hmmm…
